Powerful Communication

Affirmation exercise:

These are positive thoughts  repeated over and  over which  can make the mind think positive  and in turn  affect  your  body  with  stronger  flow  of energy. Remember the phrase or sentence that you say should be in the present tense. Each time try to repeat the sentence at least a minimum of three times. For example repeat a sentence like the one below

  • I’m energized
  • I am confident and know my content well

Shaking out the tension:

Physical  exercises help  to release the  nervous  energy  which  shows  up  in the  tightening  of the body’s muscles. Do shoulder rolls. Stretch your limbs one at a time and   rotate your ankles. Throw your hands up in the air and shake your wrists.

Summary:

  • Give yourself a few pats on the back and you’ll find your confidence going up.
  • Release nervous energy through a short exercise.

Reflection Time

Think back to any presentation that you have made. Recollect vividly how you felt before the presentation. Consider and answer each of these questions below honestly.
Were you nervous?
Were your hands feeling cold?
Did you feel worried that you would forget your content?
Were you scared to maintain eye contact with the audience?
Did you feel your heart beat increasing?
Were you finding your tone of voice seeming high pitched?
Think of any other feelings that you might have experienced. Cut back to the present and consider if you were to now make a presentation which of these forms of exercise – mental or physical -- would you adopt to lessen your stress and nervousness?
